The San Andreas Fault runs right through here, and where it does, groundwater gets pushed to the surface and grows palm oases in the middle of open desert. Trails link the Thousand Palms and McCallum groves; the 1930s "Palm House" sits at the hub (closed June–August). Roadside parking only — the lot's been shut since Hurricane Hilary took out the boardwalk. Free.
