A former trout farm turned 2,851-acre preserve where the Whitewater River runs year-round, which almost nothing does out here. The Canyon View Loop climbs to meet the Pacific Crest Trail, with bighorn sheep on the ridgelines and a wading pool by the ranger station. Gates open 8–5 and lock on the dot, so don't cut it close.
